- **Red route** is from the tram stop [Antonínská](https://maps.app.goo.gl/DueBDBsB7cBLS2Wn7) (tram 1 and 6) and also from Hotel Passage, it can be steep as there is a staircase on street Schodová (which means literally a staircase street)

## Getting There

Brno is located within a two hours' driving distance from three European capitals: Vienna (Austria), Prague (Czechia), and Bratislava (Slovakia). There are no flights from these cities to Brno but driving or taking a train or a bus are convenient options. A train ride from/to [Prague](http://czech-transport.com/index.php?id=1532) takes about 3 hours, from/to [Vienna](http://czech-transport.com/index.php?id=11691) about 90 minutes. Tickets sell for about €35 and €12, respectively.

### Flying into the Vienna airport (VIE)

Vienna airport is an international airport with good train connections to Brno (there is a train station directly underneath the airport) but usually you need to switch trains at Vienna Main train station. Possible connection is every hour or two. Price can change depending on how soon you will get the ticket. With current price (in May) around €24. You can buy tickets at [OBB](https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket) or [ČD](https://www.cd.cz/en/default.htm) eshops.

### Flying into the Brno airport (BRQ)

[Brno Airport](http://www.brno-airport.cz/en/) is a small international airport near Brno. This is a good option if you are coming from London (Stansted), Milano, Malaga, or Rome. From the airport (letiště in Czech), city bus [E76](http://www.idsjmk.cz/jrady/E76.pdf) (every half hour) will take you to the city center (19 minutes) and drop you off next to the main train station (Hlavní Nádraží in Czech). A cab ride will cost about 300 Czech Crowns (€11).

### Flying into the Prague airport (PRG)

Prague airport is also an international airport, but somehow has a worse connection to Brno. There is a direct Airport Express (AE) bus line to the Prague main train station, and from there train to Brno is every hour, look for a line going through Pardubice for the shorter route (2 hours and 40 minutes). You can buy a ticket together for the Airport Express and train to Brno at [ČD eshop](https://www.cd.cz/en/default.htm). The route from the airport to the Main train station is 28 minutes. The price of the ticket at least a week before costs approx. 300 CZK.

Alternatively you can take a public transport bus (Line 59) to Nádraží Veleslavín and from there Subway A to Museum, and transfer there to Subway line C and one stop to Main Trainstation.

## Suggested Lodging

There is no hotel block reserved. Good nearby hotels within a walking distance to the university thru the city park Lužanky:

- [**Hotel Passage**](https://www.hotelpassage.eu/) (4 stars, [17 minutes walking](https://maps.app.goo.gl/4EP9C6jF673r62wV8), €100-300 a night, nearest tram stop Antonínská, [tram 1 from the main trainstation](https://maps.app.goo.gl/HJ4gjWsotfNqdWSa8), **the recommended closest hotel**)
- [**Hotel Continental**](https://www.continentalbrno.cz) (4 stars, [21 minutes walking](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rhb89qfCSgVDjg4J7), €100-130 a night, nearest tram stop Česká, [tram 4,9,12 from the main trainstation](https://maps.app.goo.gl/HJ4gjWsotfNqdWSa8))

If you want to stay in the historical city center (which is difference of only 15 minutes walk):

- [**Grand Palace Brno**](https://grandpalace.cz) (5 stars, [20 minutes using public transport, 35 minutes walking distance](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rhb89qfCSgVDjg4J7), €100-250, [nearest tram stop Šilingrovo náměstí, or 10 minutes walk from the main trainstation](https://maps.app.goo.gl/HJ4gjWsotfNqdWSa8))
- [**Grandhotel Brno**](https://grandhotelbrno.cz/en/) (4 stars, [20 minutes using public transport](https://maps.app.goo.gl/rMv97T64MiGeaBi97), nearby train station, with a lot of nightlife, €100-120)
- [**Hotel Avion**](https://www.avion-hotel.cz/?_locale=en) (3 stars, [27 minutes walk](https://maps.app.goo.gl/xQmgRCcX2PGX8hRE9) or [15 minutes public transport](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ioTxXvcx8D68psH78), one of the narrowest hotels in Europe, low availability of rooms, €100-130)
- [**Hotel Grandezza**](https://www.grandezzahotel.com/en/) (5 stars, [33 minutes walk](https://maps.app.goo.gl/5i2NPipoui7u58VK8) or [17 minutes public transport](https://maps.app.goo.gl/F2JcHkapTvzSeWpL8), €100-130)

## Restaurants / Cafés around the university

- [Café Desoláto](https://www.desolato.cz) (former "cat café", but they sadly never had any cats) just across the street serving breakfast and lunch (with limited capacity).
- University canteen in the University campus
- Café in the Faculty Building on the same floor as the Meeting room (only snacks and coffee)
- [Café Pelíšek](http://www.kocicipelisek.cz/), a real cat café, where they have cats, but it’s a little further downhill from the university.
- [Cecilie Café](https://www.muzeumbrna.cz/cecilie-cafe/t1637), a café with outside and inside seating in Arnold's villa
- Plenty of restaurants and cafés at [Třída Kapitána Jaroše](https://maps.app.goo.gl/D1QWhW8Zqb7CrnNK6).

## About Brno & Czechia

Brno is the second largest city in the Czechia (also Czech Republic), with a population of about 400,000. It's located in Moravia, a region of the Czechia known for wine making. Brno itself is known for its blend of historical and modern architecture. A few of the more popular sites worth visiting are listed in the Attractions section.

During June, Brno is known for its [perfect weather](https://weather-and-climate.com/average-monthly-Rainfall-Temperature-Sunshine,Brno,Czech-Republic), characterized by high temperatures and moderate rainfall. During June, the summer season is in full swing. Daytime temperatures generally peak at 25°C (77°F), but after sunset, they often decrease to around 15°C (59°F). Dressing in light, airy clothing will help you stay cool and comfortable.

There are approximately 248 hours of sunshine this month, meaning plenty of sunny days and a vibrant atmosphere.

### Public transport

In Brno, you can choose from several basic tickets depending on the length of your journey. The shortest and cheapest is a **15-minute** ticket for **20 CZK**, **60-minute** ticket costs **25 CZK**. You can buy your ticket from vending machines at bus and tram stops. Make sure to **validate your ticket after entering the vehicle**.

You can use your contactless bank card as a ticket and every time you board or leave the vehicle, just tap the reader at the validator (cards on mobile phones work too.) If your journey takes less than 15 minutes it will charge you only 20 CZK. **Total payment is capped at 90 CZK** which is the price of a full day ticket. Details can be found on the [website](https://www.pipniajed.cz/en.html).

Alternatively you can install an application ([iOS](https://apps.apple.com/cz/app/dpmbinfo/id1269475431?l=cs), [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.dpmb.dpmbinfo&hl=cs&gl=US)) to your phone and buy a ticket there.

#### day public transport ticket

You can buy a multi day public transport ticket (7 days is 270 CZK, ~€11, or ~$13, 8 days is 290 CZK, ~€12, or $14). You need to create an account at [brnoid.cz](https://www.brnoid.cz/en/) (where you don't need to provide your personal information in second step, as you are going to buy a transferable ticket, which doesn't need an identification). Then [here](https://www.brnoid.cz/en/buy-ticket-brno?tc=1) you will buy the nontransferable ticket. First you need to add a carrier, which can be your payment or credit card (it must have an RFID chip), you provide your card number (it can be even expired card). In case a ticket inspector will check you up, just tap his device with the carrier card. You can buy small RFID keychain accessory at [contact centers](https://www.idsjmk.cz/en/a/kontaktni-centra.html) of the of public transport coordinator company.

How to buy the ticket is [here](https://cpp-lang.org/public-transport.html).

### Parking near university

There is a large parking lot on the street in front of the university. Parking there is free during the day 6am to 5pm. Otherwise it costs 30 CZK for each hour and you need to register your car plate and pay at [the web app](https://ke-utc.appspot.com/static/select.html?label=BRNO).

## Schengen visa

Czechia is part of Schengen area. Since 12 October 2025 new EU wide Entry/Exit system (EES) started and it will be fully functional starting 10 April 2026, please check its [page](https://travel-europe.europa.eu/pub) to check what it means for you.

[Schengen policy](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1470748711549&uri=CELEX%3A32016R0399) requires you to have your passport valid at least three months after your planned departure.

### Czech visa limitation

Since Russian aggression on Ukraine Czechia is not accepting visa requests from Russian and Belorussian citizens (even with dual citizen-ship) with [only a few exceptions](https://mzv.gov.cz/jnp/en/information_for_aliens/news/limited_visa_services_for_russian_and.html). Czechia also is not allowing entry to Russian passport holders on its outer Schengen borders.
